![]() ![]() After her children had reached an age when they were mostly self-sufficient, Jean resumed her college education and in 1972, graduated from the University of Houston with a B.A. Jean and Bill were blessed with three wonderful children and Jean spent most of her early married years being a devoted and loving Mother and wife. Later they moved first to Fort Worth and then in 1964 to Nassau Bay, Texas near the Johnson Space Center. She and Bill were married in January of 1952 and moved to Longview, Texas. At LA Tech she met her future husband, a senior engineering student, William McMullen. ![]() ![]() In 1950 she enrolled as a freshman at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA, majoring in home economics. In her senior year at Byrd High, she was elected to be an ROTC sponsor, a coveted honor in those post WWII days. Jean grew up in Shreveport, LA and graduated from Byrd High School in 1950. Jean was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on 29 August, 1932 to Gordon Earl Adams and Lorene Sanders Adams. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Lynch Hughes of Nacogdoches daughters, Mandy Tyre and husband Chuck of Huxley, Misty Kay and husband Mark of Brock, Bridgett Birdwell of Nacogdoches grandchildren, Deeanne Hughes, Kalli Perkins, Zachery Hagler, Ryleigh Hughes, Briley Birdwell, Maddy Hagler, Alex Johnson, Kason Livingston, Abigail Kay, Hunter Kay, Ethan Tyre, Sadie Kay, and Sawyer Kay mother, Ella Manshack of Center sister, Susan Helveston and husband Ronnie of Longview brother-in-law, Phil Lynch of Huntsville nephew, Eric Denby and nieces, Maci Denby and Raylen Helveston and numerous other family members. Hughes was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Nacogdoches. Hunting and cooking were among his hobbies. He retired from Nacogdoches County Road and Bridge Department. Hughes was born May 22, 1956, in Center, to Harold Hughes and Ella Baggett Hughes. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
